Design WordPress Comments & Comment Form – WP Comment Designer

Installation Instructions

  • Unzip wp-comment-designer.zip file.
  • Upload all the files to the /wp-content/plugins/wp-comment-designer.
  • Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
  • For customizing the plugin’s settings, click on ‘WP Comment Designer’ option menu in WordPress left admin menu.

Get Started

Once you have successfully installed the plugin, check for the WP Comment Designer menu on the left admin menu and click on it.

Once you click on that menu , you will see the plugin’s sub menus- WP Comment Designer, Comment Form Builder , How To Use and About Us.
You can go to WP Comment Designer and Comment Form Builder and set the content and behavior of the plugin. The first sub menu of the plugin consists of 4 major tabs dedicated to the layout of the Comment Section and the second consists of 2 tabs dedicated to the comment form. They are each descibed in the points below:

General Settings

This setting allows you to

  • Enable WP Comment Designer: Enable/Disable our plugin’s feature in your website
  • Comment Sorting:Enable/Disable the comment sorting option in the frontend
  • Total Comment Number:Show/Hide total number of comments in the frontend
  • Hide Replies:Enable/Disable hiding the replies to a comment
  • Flag Comments:Enable/Disable flagging the comments from the frontend Note: By default only administrators are allowed to flag the comments. However, The admisitrator can select others who can flag the comments. The flagged comments will be put in hold and removed from the frontend. The authorized user can unflag the comment from backend comment settings. For that, go to the list of comments that are awaiting moderation and click on approve
    • Users:
      Select user roles who can flag the comments in the frontend along with the administrator
  • Comment Rating:Enable/Disable comment rating feature in the frontend
  • Post Categories:Select the category posts to enable WP Comment Designer in

Display Settings

This setting allows you to

  • Comment Listing Template: Select one of the 15 different available templates for you comments and comment form

Pagination Settings

This setting allows you to

  • Pagination: Enable/Disable comment pagination in the frontend
  • Enter The Number Of Items Per Page: Enter the number of comments to be displayed per page
  • Pagination Type: Select one of the three pagination types. There are Load More, Infinite Scroll and Page Number. Upon selecting Infinite Scroll and Load More, you get to select the loader aswell. Load More also allows you to give a label for the load more button

Customization Settings

This setting allows you to set the the custom texts for

  • Before Notes Text: Enter the text to be displayed before the set of comment form fields if the user is not logged in
  • After Notes Text: Enter the text to be displayed after the set of comment form fields and before the submit button
  • Comment Label: Enter the label to be displayed for asking the users to leave a comment for a post. Note: If left empty, this field will take the value ‘Leave A Comment’
  • Reply Label: Enter the label to be displayed for asking the users to leave a reply to a comment. Note: If left empty, this field will take the value “Leave A Reply”.
  • Reply Button Label: Enter the label to be displayed for the trigger button for replying beneath each comment. Note: If left empty, this field will take the value “Reply”.
  • Cancel Reply Label: Enter the label to be displayed for canceling a reply. Note: if empty, this field will take the value “Cancel Reply”
  • Comment Form Submit Label: Enter the label you want for your comment form submit button. Note: if empty, this field will take the value “Post Comment”
  • Font family: Select the font family for the comments section

Comment Form Builder

General Settings

This setting allows you to

  • Form Display
    Select how you would want your comment form to be displayed. If you want your comment form to be always displayed just below the comments, select ‘Always Show’. Else, if you want your comment form to be displayed only on trigger, select ‘Show on Trigger’. Show on Trigger further allows you to enter the label for your trigger button and select how you would want your form be be displayed. ie. either inline or popup
  • Custom Fields Label/Value Display
    Select how you would want the label and their respective value of the custom fields to be displayed in the comment section. Note: if you select “Same Line”, the label and value of the custom field will be displayed in the same row. Whereas, on selecting “Seperate Lines”, the label ans the value of the custom field be displayed in two different rows
  • Enable User Registration
    register the users. On selecting explicit, any user who comments to your post will directly be registered. On the other hand, if you select user selection, a choice will be given to the user at the end of the form asking them if they want to register to your site. Furthermore, This setting allows you to enter the credentials necessary to send mail to the users who recently got registered. This setting also allows you to set the role for the registered users.Please make sure that the places where username, password and url are to be displayed is not left blank and is placed with #username, #password, #url respectively

Field Settings

This tab allows you to customize the field elements of the comment form. Besides the default Name, Email, Url and Comment area you can further add others fields. Currently five input types are available: text field, text area, select option, radio buttons and checkbox. Each of the fields both custom and defualt are customizable. You can select the field types from the custom fields at the left. The fields displayed at the right are all sortable and they appear in the same order at the frontend.

Once you have completed making the necessary changes in the settings as per your requirement, Click on ‘Save Options’ and you will see the visible output in your frontend. Also, on clicking the ‘Restore Default’, all the changes you made will be changed to the default values of the plugin.
